I saw this in my email inbox earlier and thought "that is good," but when I saw the quote again and really thought I realized how much conversation this could spark. I think of a friend who is going through some serious stuff and now those around this person do not know how to respond. People still love this person, but not sure how to venture forward as things are currently different. Often it is "just sticking around" that shows we love someone.
Something I just thought of is just ask how we can better love someone.
Thank you for reading my post, I'm glad it inspired some thought. The true meaning of love has always interested me, as I feel the dictionary's definition is quite vague. I think a huge portion of love is loyalty and as you put it "just sticking around". When someone we love is struggling we often rush to their side, only to have no idea what to say or do. The reality is, often there are no words or actions that can fix the situation. That is why it is a brave act of love to just take someone's hand and sit down in the wreckage, rather than trying to fix, or pacify the situation. That is vulnerability, that is love.
